Review
Stoneyard Distillery was a memorable one-night Harvest Hosts stop with a friendly owner, genuinely unusual spirits, and easy access from I-70.
The tasting was the highlight of our visit. Stoneyard makes its spirits from beet sugar rather than grain, so its offerings were different from those at most distilleries we have visited. We tried a barrel-aged spirit that tasted surprisingly similar to whiskey, a pickle-infused spirit, and a coconut and basil infused cocktail.
Our favorite was a lemonade cocktail made with his cucumber and basil infusions. We loved it enough that he mixed and bottled the two infused spirits for us, allowing us to recreate the drink later.
The owner was exceptionally friendly and spent plenty of time talking with us while the tasting room was open. There is also a small patio behind the distillery where guests can enjoy their drinks and meet other Harvest Hosts travelers.
Stoneyard does not serve food, so we returned to the trailer and cooked dinner after the tasting. Travelers should plan to eat beforehand or bring everything they need to prepare a meal.
Most of the parking spots appeared noticeably unlevel, so you need to level your rig or accept being a little uneven for the night. The property is also immediately beside I-70, making traffic noise unavoidable. It did not bother us, but it may matter to lighter sleepers who didn’t have enough of their spirits.
Overall, Stoneyard offered much more than a place to park for the night. The unusual tasting, welcoming owner, custom bottle, and conversations with other travelers made it a worthwhile stop along our route.
Trailerability
Stoneyard was easy to reach with our truck and travel trailer. The route has you leave I-70 a little sooner than we expected, but RV Life provided accurate directions and brought us in without any problems (we were traveling eastbound towards Denver).
The owner met us when we arrived and directed us to an available parking spot. That was helpful because the property was busy and the parking areas varied in levelness.
Most rigs should arrive prepared to level. The spaces we saw were not especially flat, although they worked fine for a one-night dry-camping stay.
Getting out the following morning and returning to I-70 was straightforward.
Towmads Top Tips
- Book ahead – There were at least five Harvest Hosts rigs staying during our visit. Reserve in advance rather than assuming space will be available at the last minute, and be sure to show up as early as you can in the checking window to avoid the potential congestion and to give yourself plenty of time to enjoy their many offerings.
- Bring your own food – Stoneyard does not serve food. Eat before arriving or plan to prepare dinner in your RV after the tasting.
- Spend some time on the patio – The small back patio is a good place to enjoy your drinks and meet other Harvest Hosts travelers. Don’t automatically disappear into your trailer once the tasting room closes.

Stoneyard Distillery Tasting Room — On Site
The tasting room is the experience that makes this more than a convenient overnight parking spot.
Stoneyard’s spirits are distilled from beet sugar, creating a lineup that differs from the grain-based products found at most distilleries. We sampled a barrel-aged spirit with surprisingly whiskey-like characteristics, a pickle infusion, and separate cucumber and basil infusions.
The highlight was the custom blend the owner made from his cucumber- and basil-infused spirits. He can bottle a combination for guests to purchase, and ours was good enough that we brought it along for the rest of the trip.
