A great oasis to use as homebase while visiting the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas.

Hickory Creek Campground is a very large park that has 121 sites with electric hookups. It has hot showers, a dump station, and boat ramp.
The park is closed between 10 pm and 6 am, and entry into the park is not permitted during those times.
Visits
- March 29, 2023 – Hickory Creek Campground was a quick one night stay on our drive to Austin as part of our 4F (Florida, Family, Friends, Fun) ?. This stop was slightly out of the way, but in the spirit of the trip – we wanted to go for happy hour with some of my (Leigh Anne’s) co-workers whom, because I work remotely, I’d never met in person.
Review
We wished we had had more time to spend at Hickory Creek Campground. We were only there for a single night, but we could tell it was a really nice park with great views of Lewisville Lake. If you can book early, we highly recommend getting one of the spots that backs up to the water.
Hickory Creek Campground itself is huge as are the campsites. You definitely don’t feel like you’re crammed into a sardine can like some parks can make you feel.
This campground would probably get 5 stars from us if they didn’t have the locked gate rule – they lock the gates between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am, and you can’t get back into the park during those hours. There is an emergency exit though. It made having plans in Carrollton feel a little rushed to get back so we wouldn’t get locked out.
Trailerability
If you stick to the main arterials, it’s a lot better than the gps navigation trying to take us through windy neighborhood roads. However, once we were in the park, there was plenty of room to maneuver with the trailer, and the sites were paved, spacious, and virtually level – which made setting up the LevelMatePro+ even easier.
Towmads Top Tips
- Get one of the spots on the lake if you can.
- DO NOT get stuck outside the park after the gates are locked.
Nearby Things We Enjoyed
- 3 Nations Brewing Co. in Carrollton, TX – Great beer and great food. The burger was perfect! And of course great company meeting my coworkers. Harry really loved the blood orange witbier – the Royal Blood. I had the Orange Creamsicle which was that same beer with vanilla added to it. It was delicious.
- We installed our LevelMatePRO+. Greatest gadget EVER+! Harry got me this for me for my birthday this year. My sister-in-law thought I was crazy with how excited I was to finally have this thing….no more getting out the little bubble level and guessing at what’s “level enough”!
- We replaced the drain cap for our kitchen grey tank. The previous one was super difficult to remove, so our dealer recommended the Valterra EZ Coupler Valve Cap with a handle, which gives a lot more leverage making it so much easier to take off.
