Visits
- March 28, 2023 – A quick one night stopover on our way to Austin as part of our 4F (Florida, Family, Friends, Fun) ?. We chose this route and spot specifically so we could eat at the famous Big Texan Steak Ranch.
Review
The Big Texan RV Ranch was a fun stop after a really, REALLY long drive from Fort Collins, Colorado. Even though we didn’t get to do much around the RV lot or area, ours was a great spot – spacious, level, and easy to pull into. The staff gave us an easy pull-through site since they knew we’d only be staying one night.
It’s located right off the freeway, so it can be quite noisy. We don’t mind much, but if you’d prefer a quieter environment, this might not work for you. And, while the sites are spacious, there isn’t much by way of privacy.
We wish we’d have gotten there a little earlier to enjoy the free shuttle to the Steak Ranch and to not have to disconnect our truck from the trailer, but it was well worth it for the delicious steaks and drinks we had at the steakhouse.
It is definitely worth the stay if you want to experience the iconic the Steak Ranch, but unless you have a particular reason you want or need to stay multiple nights in Amarillo, this might only be a good place for a single night’s stay.
Trailerability
Super easy to get in and out of. It’s not far off the freeway, plenty of space, and things were well marked which all was much appreciated after the long, long drive to get here. Amarillo is a long way from anywhere.

Nearby Things We Enjoyed
- The Big Texan Steak Ranch – This was really all we got to explore in the area since we got in really late in the evening, but dinner was fabulous, especially those sauteed mushrooms! Neither of us were brave (or hungry) enough to try the 72 oz Steak Challenge. Leigh Anne couldn’t even finish two small 5 oz tenderloins much less over 4 pounds of meat and trimmings!
