Visits
- April 5 – 10, 2023 – Bayou Segnette State Park was the last destination of the second leg on our 4F (Florida, Family, Friends, Fun) ? adventure was Bayou Segnette State Park. We made this park our home base for exploring New Orleans since it was only about a 12 mile drive to the heart of the city. Though, to ease the anxiety of trying to find parking in New Orleans, we opted to park near Algiers Point and take the Canal Ferry across the Mississippi! We also explored other parts of Louisiana, including the southernmost point you can drive to in the state – Venice.
Review
Bayou Segnette State Park is a fantastic place to stay if you want to be close to New Orleans. The sites were really spacious, reasonably priced, felt safe, and it was a short drive into the heart of all that is NOLA. However, be sure go armed with bug spray and citronella candles if you’re heading there during the Spring months at least. The chiggers and mosquitos were definitely out in full force that time of year.
Trailerability
Overall getting into the park and into the campsite was easy (as long as you get there before they close the gates).
Towmads Top Tips
- Going to the French Quarter is easiest if you park in Algiers Point and take the Canal St. Ferry across the Mississippi River. The passenger ferry ride gives a unique vantage point of New Orleans without having to find parking right in the city. It’s also insanely cheap – only $2 for the round trip or you can get multi-day passes, which are also reasonably priced. It doesn’t run late into the evening, but an Uber ride back to your vehicle at the dock in Algiers is easy.
- If there are any tours you want to take, be sure to book them early. We missed out on a couple we wanted to do because we waited too long to get tickets.
