Ours

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

We’ve only been here in the late fall / early winter, and we can tell you that that time of year, this place should be renamed Soggy State Park 😂 Given its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, it shouldn’t come as a shock that there is a lot of rain in the off-season. If you like the sound of rain on your RV roof, you’ll really like it here if you come during those months. They keep some of the dryer spots reservable during the wet season, and the rest are available on a first-come, first-served basis so you can decide for yourself if it’s dry enough for you.

Sogginess aside, this park and area are a real treat in the winter. It gets a little busier if there is a razor clam dig going on, but overall we felt like we had the park and the whole Twin Harbor Beach area to ourselves. Exploring the waterfront shops and marina in Westport is nice. It was also convenient being relatively close to the bigger town of Aberdeen for picking up any supplies we needed.

SEAFOOD! SEAFOOD! SEAFOOD! Razor clamming on the beach and crabbing from the docks in Westport, then cooking up our catch back at camp was a tasty blast. If catching your own seafood isn’t your thing both Merino’s Seafood Market and Brady’s Oysters are close by with great selections in addition to whatever they are selling from the boats in the marina (check out the Westport’s Fresh Catch billboard by the docks to see whats available). If you prefer your food handed to you ready to eat, Merino’s also has a restaurant with a great menu. Plus, there is Bennett’s Fish Shack which is one of our favorites.

Others

Nearby things we enjoyed

  • Razor clamming – So much fun spending the day on the beach then cooking up our catch. Nothing like having fresh from the ocean razor clams for our Pacific Razor Clam Chowder Recipe
  • Exploring Westport Marina – The marina area has lots of little shops, restaurants, and docks to check out. Merino’s was one of our favorites stops. And how can you beat a crab pot Christmas tree!
  • Local Bar & Grill in Grayland – This little spot is right outside the park entrance. They had a fun pegboard game we played trying to win pickled asparagus. We also had a blast hanging out with locals cheering on the Seattle Seahawks.
  • John’s River Lodge in Aberdeen – Random spot on way back from Aberdeen that had a fun band followed by karaoke. We definitely didn’t expect to be dancing and singing on the trip.
